Inspirational Women Engaging in Building a Culture of Peace

An historic event took place at Lancaster Gate on Saturday 26th May. The Women’s Federation for World Peace held their first ‘One day Education Symposium’ for guests and Ambassadors for Peace. It was a step forward in the activities of WFWP which has gone from strength to strength in this last year. We had nine guests which included a wonderful mix of truly inspirational women engaged in building a culture of peace along with fourteen WFWP members.

We were warmly welcomed by Christa Rennie who was our MC for the day. Next Tina Coombs gave an inspirational PowerPoint presentation on the history of WFWP and also the contribution that the Women’s Federation is making towards building a culture of peace.  This included a DVD of some of the many projects initiated world wide. Everyone was truly amazed at the foundation that has been made on both the national and international levels.

Tina continued after the break with a session entitled ‘International Decade of a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Benefit of the Children of the World’.  This focussed on six main points:

Respect and dignity for each human being
Non-violence and conflict resolution
Solidarity
Sustainable Development
Democratic Governance
Living for the sake of others

It was our great pleasure that Marie Therese Nlandu could join us in the morning.  Marie Therese, a Human Rights Lawyer, was recently released from imprisonment in the Congo and she could share her gratitude for the many that supported her and campaigned for her release.  She mentioned how she was sustained in her lowest moments whilst waiting for the death penalty by her relationship to God. A wonderful lunch was provided by Naomi Sato and gave good opportunity to get to know one another and share our experiences.

The two afternoon PowerPoint presentations were given by Shelagh Weedall on the Principles for Peace.

·        Living for the Sake of Others
·        The Family as a School of Love

Time for lively discussion followed. The day was concluded with a summing up and closing remarks from our president Mitty Tohma showing her appreciation to all who attended.

Statement by the FFWPU UK
Thursday, 11 May 2006

It has been a long struggle to enable the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon to visit the UK to speak to his followers. At the age of 85, after a 27 year gap, he was able to speak to an invited audience in London on the 5th November of last year.

The former Home Secretary, the Rt. Hon Charles Clarke made the decision to grant Rev. Moon a visa after an Immigration Appellate Tribunal decision left him little room to maneuver in July of 2005 and after a deluge of letters from religious and other leaders and parents of members of the Unification Movement spoke of the injustice of keeping a peace-campaigning religious leader from his flock.

Cheon Il Guk Workshop at Cleeve House, 2nd - 4th December 2005
Wednesday, 11 January 2006
On the 2nd -  4th December 2005, we held a weekend workshop to experience Cheon Il Guk together as one family: HARP, CARP, CARP graduates, and elder 1st Generation. Participants travelled across to Cleeve House together in a hired coach from the national HQs in London. We experienced being equals, in the sense that we were able to appreciate each other for who we are. It is clear in this Cheon Il Guk era that the good connection between the different age groups and generations will help us to unite and understand each other's hearts and minds, and thus build substantially God's Homeland.

Respected leaders of the United States:

I am grateful that so many of you could gather here today, in spite of your busy public and private schedules.

Let me begin my address by reading an excerpt from a prayer that I offered forty-seven years ago. The year was 1958 and I was a 38-year-old single man. This prayer is recorded in the Cheon Seong Gyeong, a collection of passages from sermons I have delivered over the course of my ministry.

UK “Rally for Education on Attending and Protecting the Root Ancestor”, Imperial College, London
Wednesday, 08 June 2005
The British FFWPU’s annual National Sunday Service was supposed to be in a different hall at Imperial College in Central London, but at the last minute the “cash-strapped” university swapped the venues in favour of a feature film which wanted to film on the site that weekend. But no matter. Nothing could stop members singing their hearts out for both Holy and popular songs, encouraged ever more by the incredible sound that can be made by such a large congregation.
