Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans Receives 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize for Pioneering Global Anti-Poverty Movement

Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans received the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize in Seoul for his leadership in fighting global poverty through mass mobilisation and advocacy.

Hugh Evans, the Australian co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize in Seoul, South Korea. This honour recognises his exceptional leadership in mobilising a global movement to end extreme poverty. Evans is the first Australian to receive the award, which celebrates individuals making significant contributions to peace and human development. Hugh Jackman even shared a congratulatory message on Instagram, posting a screenshot to celebrate Hugh Evans’ achievement and highlight the impact of his work.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Global Citizen movement, Evans acknowledged the collective efforts of artists, advocates, and everyday citizens who have propelled the organisation’s mission. “Only together has the Global Citizen movement been able to impact 1.3 billion lives so far,” he stated. Evans highlighted the collaboration with renowned artists such as Coldplay, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, and Usher, emphasising their role in amplifying the movement’s message.​

Since its inception in 2008, Global Citizen has united over 12 million members worldwide, driving more than 42.9 million actions that have led to over 30 global policy changes. These efforts have resulted in the mobilisation of over $43 billion in commitments, directly impacting the lives of more than 1.3 billion individuals by addressing issues like poverty, health, education, and access to essential services.

The Sunhak Peace Prize, established in 2013, honours individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to peace and human development. Evans’ recognition underscores the impact of collective action and the power of global citizenship in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.​
